INTRODUCTION
Kolkata well known as ‘City of Joy’ holds an important place in the economy, politics and culture of India. It is the capital city of Indian state West Bengal and is among one of the four metropolitan cities in India and has retained its prototypical charm despite modernization. In northern Kolkata, the oldest part of the city lies where one will find the stately mansions of famous Kolkatans such as Nobel Prize-winning poet Rabindranath Tagore.The architecture of the city in the form of Raj Bhavan, Writers’ Building and the Victoria Memorial Hall are just some of the many buildings that hark back to a long-gone era reflects the city’s colonial past.
That area of the city is also home to the busy Kumartuli clay making quarter. There, potters mold lifelike religious idols for the city’s many festivals.Kolkata earlier known as Calcutta, founded in 1698 and was earlier known as Calcutta. During the British rule the city was served as the capital of British India till 1911 and then was shifted to Delhi. In 2001 the city was renamed as Kolkata.Kolkata is located along the banks of river Hoogly, and is connected to Howrah by the iconic Howrah Bridge.The 'Kolkata International Art Exhibition' (‘KIAE’ for short) founded in 2016, a project approved by ‘Bratachari Gram Art Society’, ‘Joka Art Council’ and ‘Kolkata Artists Association’, to showcase modern and contemporary works from International visual artists along with artists from Kolkata, presented in the form of an exhibition titled 'Kolkata International Art Exhibition 2024' or ‘KIAE 2024’.
Home to prominent intellectuals, Kolkata is regarded as an artistic and cultural capital of India. Kolkata has produced so many greatest thinkers, artists, film makers and writers like Rabindranth Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay and Satyajit Ray a famous and popular line is linked with the city as ‘What Bengal think today, India thinks tomorrow’. Undoubtedly, the ideas of Kolkata in the fields of literature, art, cinema and theater have given motivation and inspiration to rest of the country. This is the reason why Kolkata is the cultural capital of India. So, ‘KIAE2024’ will act as a platform for international cultural exchanges, the main objective of the 'KIAE 2024' is to present works of Art of excellence both in terms of material application and aesthetic appeal. ‘KIAE’ focuses on the conception of promoting the global harmony by the contemporary artistic exhibition and respecting the variety of the international culture and dialogue between the orient and occident. The aim is to promote ideas of mutual understanding, tolerance, and cultural diversity that unite artists in a universal desire for peace. Today, cultural exchanges takes place in the form of an international art exhibition. More than 150 works will be showcased in this exhibition from International as well as artists from Kolkata and other states of India.
This year, 'Kolkata International Art Exhibition 2025' is scheduled to be held in the month of January, 2025 at the prestigious galleries of ‘Rabindranath Tagore Centre’ a wing of ‘Indian Council for Cultural Relations’ which is an architectural landmark located in the heart of Kolkata. It not only have, art galleries but also have compact auditorium with excellent acoustics, conference-centre with seminar and lecture rooms. It enables this culturally vibrant city to appreciate a variety of international cultural events, which include art exhibitions, dance and musical performances, seminars, talks, workshops, and theatre. Some of the works of ‘3rd KIAE2025’ will also be exhibited at ‘Academy of Fine Arts’, one of the oldest and most renowned art gallery in Kolkata. This event is open to all professional artist (trained & self-taught) from all over the world irrespective of education, religion, race and gender.‘3rd KIAE2025’ will showcase modern and contemporary art comprising of Paintings, Drawings, Watercolour, Graphics, Photography & Digital Art. We warmly invite every artist to send their entries to participate in this grand event of 'Kolkata International Art Exhibition 2025'.
