Art and Social Reform
Faced with new realities and everchanging situations in almost every aspects, art practitioners in India are more and more adapting their strategies towards a global preference in experimenting with their creations, and at the same time keeping a close relation within traditions where art can be seen to reflect the interconnection of cultures, society as well as environment.
They seek to create works that are more than just socially active; they also incorporate them into the vocabulary of this Digital Age. In addition to being involved in the contemporary cultural and technological trends from outside its borders, india has always encouraged artists to look at their own social conditions, cultural and artistic values and rich cultural histories. In every corners of the globe, there is an mingle of local and global artistic approaches which is actually benificial to stimulate creative dimension in various art fields.
Over the years, this intermix of diffrent artistic exchanges from the local and global scenario, there's also been a unsetting dimension to this conflict: an increase in forced migration and displacement as well as increased instances of other forms of migration. This is revolutionizing the notion of home, a concept which has always been encouraged by artists to explore in its various forms ranging from indoor space to nation. The ‘Kolakata International Art Biennale 2024’ will show light on the complexities that the globalized world is experiencing. It is true that with pasage of time, other regions that share almost, the same artistic impulses and face the same challenges of development and identity would be included in the exhibition as has happened in recent years.
In choosing the theme theme, 'Art and Social Reform:’, in '3rd KIAE 2025’ we will try to present flavours of different cultures of various geographical locations under one roof. As, art is connected very closely to the fundamental sense of self. Artists use different forms of expression to convey a feeling, state of society, depict critical moments in history or a perspective through space and time. Art has always been a creative way to preserve history, presenting various views and scenarios through the ages.
